A former 4H Youth Advisor and mother of two daughters and now a grandmother, author Tena Bastian strongly believes that a young life that includes the love of horses is a life that paves the way to a strong and confident adult. In an effort to share her love and knowledge of horses, Tena has written Tips and Tidbits for the Horse Lover. In doing so, her goal was to create an educational book that will serve to bring parents and their children closer together through learning more about the wonderful world of horses with fun pieces of information that will appeal to all ages.
Living on a small ranch and dog boarding kennel in Ohio with her family and animals that include seven horses, two dogs and several cats, Tena and her husband Michael or “Bear” as he is called by most travel the country presenting horse related seminars. She has been a featured speaker at The Equine Affaire in Ohio, California, Kentucky; the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, California, the South Dakota Horse Fair and numerous other venues. She has also been a guest on two nationally syndicated radio programs, The Horse Show with Rick Lamb and Pet Talk Radio.
Known to many as a western poet, Tena is best known for her project for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association with a poem entitled “Iron Horse”. Promoted by Professionals Choice, Iron Horse was seen in many major magazines including Equus , Horse Illustrated and Horse and Rider with the original piece auctioned at The All American Quarter Horse Congress to benefit The North American Riding For The Handicapped Association. Her book, The Foal Is The Goal has been selected for the National Agricultural library, has been chosen as the featured selection in the Equestrian Book Club and is being reprinted in Spanish.
Tena and her books have graced the pages of the most respected equine publications and have received rave reviews from publications such as The Yankee Horsemen’s Pedlar, The Gaited Horse, Horse Country and Horse Connection. Now her desire is to introduce her love of horses to the millions of people that can benefit from the experience that horses have to offer to everyone. Whether you are new to horses or a seasoned professional, Tips and Tidbits for the Horse Lover will give you an interesting and informative front row seat along side the young person in your life. Be sure to pick up the companion release by Tena Bastian, The Horses We Love, The Lessons We Learn.
The Horsemen’s Yankee Pedlar gives her book five blue ribbons. “This book opens with a bang, as veteran horse breeder Bastian dedicates this guide to “those who laugh out loud at the sight of a mare that barely fits through the barn door anymore. They go on to say “She hit the mark with this lavishly illustrated and clearly written guide, and is perhaps too humble – there is much good technical information contained herein.
Horse Country exclaims that Tena is meticulous in her insistence on cleanliness and safety, educated decision making and communication and integrity in business dealings. We suggest that you read the book!”
The Gaited Horse says. This is really the best book I’ve seen on breeding and handling mares and stallions. The Author nails it with clear, obvious photos explaining things that words alone do not convey. This book shows years of hard-won horse sense.
Horse Connection declares that “There are several real world examples and full color pictures throughout the text which are always insightful.”
The Horses We Love Love/The Lessons Will open a door between the estimated sixty million readers that love horses but may not have the opportunity to enjoy them first hand and the people that understand what horses can teach us about our every day lives. These are twenty two amazing stories that are told first hand by someone that lives her daily life discovering all that horses have taught her. Lessons that can easily be applied by anyone regardless of whether they enjoy the pleasure of the company of horses or have never set foot in a barn. This is a book about life; facing adversity, dealing with disappointment and missed opportunities. It is about setting goals and achieving them, second chances and finding your niche in life. |
